God's Glory in Creation and in His Word

A Devotional on Psalm 19 (with Psalm 8:4 and Paul's Teaching)

Psalm 19 is a beautiful song written by King David. It shows us that God speaks to us in two powerful ways: through His creation and through His Word. But when we look at the greatness of God in nature, we also ask: Who are we compared to this? David asked that question in Psalm 8, and Paul gives us a deeper answer in the New Testament.

This message is very important believers. It helps us understand God's glory, God's truth, and our place in His plan.

God Speaks Through Creation

(Psalm 19:1–6 and Psalm 8:4)

"The heavens tell of the glory of God,
And their expanse declares the work of His hands."

Psalm 19:1 (NASB)

David looks at the sky the sun, stars, and clouds and he sees God's greatness. The skies don't use words, but they speak a message that all people can understand: God is real, powerful, and beautiful.

In Psalm 8:4, David is amazed by this:

"What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?"

Psalm 8:4

David asks: Why does the great God of the universe care about small people like us? And yet, God gives people value. He made us in His image. He gave us a special place in His creation.

Application: Nature shows God's glory. It also reminds us that we are small but God still loves us and gave us a special purpose.

God Speaks Through His Word

(Psalm 19:7–11 and Hebrews 2:6–9)

"The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."

Psalm 19:7

David says God's Word is powerful. He uses words like law, command, and judgment. These words show that the Bible is good, pure, and strong.

God's Word:

  • Restores the soul
  • Gives wisdom
  • Brings joy
  • Opens our eyes
  • Warns us
  • Rewards us when we obey

The Bible tells us more than nature can. It tells us who God is. It tells us how to be saved. It tells us about Jesus Christ.

Paul talks about Psalm 8 in Hebrews 2:6–9. He says that Jesus is the true answer to David's question: What is man? Jesus became human, just like us. He suffered and died for us. Then God raised Him and gave Him glory.

"But we do see Him… Jesus… crowned with glory and honor… so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone."
Hebrews 2:9

Our Right Response to God

(Psalm 19:12–14 and 1 Corinthians 15:47–49)

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer."

Psalm 19:14

After seeing God's greatness and hearing His Word, David prays. He asks God:

  • To forgive hidden sins
  • To protect him from doing wrong on purpose
  • To help him live in a way that pleases God

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:47–49 that we are now like the first man (Adam), but one day we will be like Jesus. We will be changed to look like Him.

Application: When we understand who God is, we become humble. We ask for forgiveness. We want to live holy lives. And we trust in Jesus, our Redeemer.

Conclusion

Psalm 19 and Psalm 8 work together:

  • Creation shows us God's power.
  • The Bible shows us God's truth.
  • Jesus shows us God's love and our true purpose.

Paul says:

"For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever."
Romans 11:36

Let us pray with David:

"Let the words of my mouth… be acceptable in Your sight."
Psalm 19:14 (NASB)

Amen.
