"Do we lose something precious?"

15-06-2025

Is more knowledge always better? Or do we lose something precious along the way?

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is a well-known symbol from the Bible.
It stood in the Garden of Eden, next to the Tree of Life.

One word in this story stands out: knowledge.
When Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they lost their innocence.
By gaining knowledge, they became more aware — they now understood good and evil in a new way.

This tree is often seen as a symbol of:

  • Moral awareness – the ability to tell right from wrong.
  • Free will – the human choice to go against God's command.

Knowledge is powerful.
It can enrich our lives, open our minds, and help us understand the world.
But knowledge also has its dangers. Too much information can overwhelm us.

Many people become more cynical. The sense of wonder fades.
Faith can turn into a theory, instead of a living relationship.
This may lead to a feeling of distance — from God, from others, and even from ourselves.

When knowledge is used with love, compassion, and wisdom, it brings light and joy.
But knowledge without connection — without heart or real-life meaning — can pull us away from what really matters.

Maybe this is exactly what God, our loving Father, wanted to protect us from.
